Dr. Pokanati V. V. Rama Rao has over 26 years of professional experience, including 1 year in industry and more than 25 years in teaching. He has held various academic and administrative positions, ranging from Electrical Project Coordinator and Lecturer to Head of Department, Dean, and Principal. Currently, he is serving as Professor & Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Chairman of the Board of Studies (EEE), and Academic Council Member at MVSR Engineering College.
He holds a B.Tech in EEE, an M.Tech in Electrical Power Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Power Systems from JNTU Hyderabad. He has taught a wide range of UG courses including Electrical Circuits, Network Theory, EMF, Basic Electrical Engineering, Electrical Machines, Electrical Measurements, Power Systems, Power Electronics, Control Systems, HVDC/FACTS, Electric Vehicles, MPMC, Neural Networks & Fuzzy Logic, AI Techniques, and Optimization Techniques. His PG teaching includes courses such as Microcontrollers & Applications, Digital Controllers, DSP & Applications, Power Quality, and Custom Power Devices.
Dr. Rama Rao has published 48 papers in international journals and presented 69 papers at national and international conferences. He has authored two books and supervised two PhD scholars (one each from JNTUA and JNTUK), with three more currently pursuing research under his guidance. He has secured external funding exceeding Rs. 3 crores for various government-sponsored projects and holds four published patents out of five filed.
He actively pursues continuous learning and holds NPTEL certifications in areas like DC Microgrid and Control Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Python for Data Science, along with MATLAB online program certifications including MATLAB Onramp, Simulink Onramp, and Control Design Onramp with Simulink, Machine Learning Onramp, and Reinforcement Learning Onramp.
An eminent speaker, he has delivered over 50 expert lectures and keynote addresses in FDPs, workshops, guest lectures, webinars, and conferences, covering topics such as power systems, electric vehicles, high voltage engineering, MATLAB and simulation tools, ANN and fuzzy logic applications, energy audit and management, research methodologies, innovation and entrepreneurship, and NEP 2020.
Dr. Rama Rao is a Senior Member of IEEE, Fellow of IEI and IETE, Life Member of ISTE, and Executive Committee Member of the Indian Society of Systems for Science and Engineering Hyderabad Chapter. He is also affiliated with WASET, ISDS, WSEAS, and IAEME. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of i-Manager’s Journal on Circuits and Systems and was an Executive Committee Member of IEI, Andhra Pradesh State Centre (2017–19).
He has been recognized with the Emerging Leader Award from the Venus International Foundation, Chennai, and the Best Academician Award from the Society for Learning Technologies, Hyderabad.
